Biafra: Ojukwu Believed In One Nigeria ― Igbo Youths Leader

Odumegwu Ojukwu

The agitation for Biafra seems not to be a consensus by of Southeasterners as some said they preferred Igbo Presidency come 2023.

The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, has said General Odumegwu Ojukwu after the Biafra war showed beyond doubt he believed in “one Nigeria”.

Isiguzoro stated this in an interview with Lanre News. According to him; “After the war ended, Dim Odumegwu Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, was pardoned and returned home from exile and he contested for President under APGA in 2003 and 2007 to provide assurances that he believed in One Nigeria.

“In one of his historic interviews, he acknowledged that Biafra is now a thing of the mind”

He also noted that; “Biafra excites Igbo generations born after the civil war”.

Isiguzoro who was replying to a question “why do you think Igbos want Biafra?” asked by our reporter, Rasheed Opeyemi, noted, “those that saw the 1967 Ahiara Declaration of Biafra State by then Col Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, will always be cautious and avoid any possible repeat of the sad experiences of the civil war again”.

He blamed the state of the Nation (Nigeria) for the reason why some Igbos were forced to demand cessation.

“Until Nigeria correct herself through devolution of powers and respect for regionalism, and support 2023 Igbo Presidency Project, our fears of possible catastrophic conflict arising from the post-2023 election, if Igbos are denied the chance to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari, is better avoided than witnessed.”
