For first-time soccer betting players wondering what all the jargon of betting (bet codes) really mean and how they can stake? Relax! Take your time to read through and you will be able to place your first bet like a pro.

The idea of betting might not settle well with some Nigerians probably because of their religious or moral standard but one thing is unarguable, many Nigerians (especially youths) see betting as a source of income.

Most of these youths have found a way to connect their love for sports games with a way to make quick cash.

Bet Codes and Their Meaning

“Ba mi gbe Everton under 1.5; Man U ati Man City goal goal; Bayern X1” this is one of the common conversation you will encounter in a South West betting centre. The same is true for other parts of the country except for the difference in use of language.

The above-quoted statement translates; “Stake Everton under 1.5; Man U and Man City goal goal; Bayern X1.”

Betting companies have also made playing easy. You can decide to play at the comfort of your house using their apps or web version, or visit a betting shop.

Different Soccer/Football Bettings

Even though the duration for a typical football game is 90 minutes, ignoring the extra time, betting companies allows punters different options to stake on.

Your bet can be based on; among others;

  • Half time game
  • Full time game
  • Penalty shoot outs
  • Free kicks
  • Cards (Yellow and Red)

To better understand fundamental betting codes we will be highlighting below, for each instance, always remember there is a HOME team and the AWAY team. Before you stake, the team that appears first (to your left) is the Home Team and the one on the other side is the away team.

1: If you are staking on 1, it means you are betting the HOME team will win the match. It now depends on you to select whether your prediction is for the first half or the full game.

2: In real life, 2 is the number that followed 1; but in sports betting, staking on 2 means you are predicting the AWAY team will win the match.

X: A stake on X simply means you are predicting the match will end in a draw. Either for half time or full time ― you decide.

DC: Double Chance (DC) is like predicting Either This or That will happen.

1XDC/1X: Remember 1 interprets the HOME team will win and X means the game will end in a draw. 1XDC implies either the HOME team WINS or the game will end in DRAW. You may probably see it written as just 1X.

X2DC/X2: Just a direct opposite to the above (1XDC), X2DX means that the AWAY team will either win or the game will end in a DRAW. You can predict either for half-time or full time.

12DC/12: You want to put your eggs in many baskets, this one code you can leverage on. It means either the HOME or the AWAY team wins. Some betting company will present the code as just 12.

Over 0.5/OV0.5: Some punters prefer staking this code in matches they are not sure of how it will end. Over 0.5 code means at least one goal will be scored before the end of the match. Either the game ends with a win or draw, so far there is a goal scored, you win the bet. E.g. 1-0; 2-0; 1-1; 2-1. But games ending with 0-0 loses.

Over 1.5/OV1.5: What does Over 1.5 mean? In this case, it means you are predicting the two sides goals combined will equal two or more. For instance, if the match ends in a draw of 1-1; 1-2; 2-2; etc, you will win the bet. But if the match ends with a score of 0-0; or 1-0 for instance, you lose the bet.

MORE From LANRE NEWS:

Over 2.5/OV2.5: Are you confident there will be more than two goals scored in the game you want to stake on? Then this is the code to use. To win the bet of Over 2.5 (or OV2.5) there have to be at least three goals such as a match ending 1-2; or 3-0. You lose if the match ends 0-0; 1-0.

Over 3.5: What does Over 3.5/OV3.5 mean? It translates you are predicting that the match will end with at least four goals. Remember, you can stake this for either first half or full match. If the match ends with a score of 4-0; 0-5; 2-3; 4-1; etc, you win the bet. You lose if it ends with 3-0 for instance.

Under 0.5/UN0.5: What does Under 0.5 means? Sport bet codes with Under are a reverse of the Over games.  Under 0.5 means you are predicting the game will end with no goal from each side i.e a draw of 0-0. Also called a stalemate.

Under 1.5/UN1.5: What does under 1.5 mean? It means you are staking that the total number of goals in the game will not be more than 1. The game has to end 0-0 draw or 1-0/0-1 win to make some catch from the bet.

Under 2.5/UN2.5: Just like in the case of Under 1.5, Under 2.5 implies you are presuming the match will end with a total goal not more than two goals. 1-0; 2-0; 1-1 end score wins but scores like 0-3; 2-1; 1-3 lose. Remember you can stake for either first half or full time.

Under 3.5/UN3.5: What does Under 3.5 means? It simply means the game will end with a total score not more than four goals. End score like 1-0; 2-0; 1-2; 3-0 wins the bet but scores like 2-2; 2-4; 4-0 lose.

To take the meaning of this betting code to heart, always remember, 3.5 is lesser than 4 goals (#smile).
