How Nigerian Politicians Reacted to Death of Hajiya Dada Yar’Adua

Hajiya Dada Yar’Adua, the mother of the late former President Umaru Yar’Adua, and the late General Shehu Yar’Adua is dead.

The matriarch of the Yar’Adua family passed away on Monday at the age of 102.

One of her sons, Suleiman Musa-Yar’adua, announced her demise on Monday in Katsina.

Hajiya Dada left behind many children, grand and great grandchildren.

Many politicians have reacted to the death of the Hajiya Yar’Adua who is also the mother to the senator representing Katsina Central, Abdulaziz Yar’Adua.

Bola Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu on Monday commiserated with the Yar’Adua family.

Tinubu also extended his condolences to Sen. Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, the people of Katsina State, and to the many lives the late matriarch touched.

“The President mourns Hajiya Dada, yet extols her legacy of compassion, faith, honesty, and good fellowship.

“President Tinubu prays for the repose of the soul of the deceased and affirms that the matriarch of the Yar’Adua family will always be remembered for the support, peace, joy and comfort she offered to many,” said the President’s spokesman, Ngelale.

Kashim Shettima

Vice-President Kashim Shettima on Tuesday led a Federal Government delegation to attend the burial of late President Umaru Yar’adua’ mother.

Speaking on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, Shettima expressed the nation’s profound grief over the passing of Hajiya Binta.

He said the passing of Hajia Binta was a loss not just for the immediate family or Katsina State, but the entire nation.

He eulogised the late matriarch, describing her as “a colossus and iconic woman”.

“The loss of Hajia Binta has hit the whole nation. We are here to sympathise with the family over this great loss. She was our mother and our grandmother.

“May Allah grant her soul eternal rest and reward her with Paradise.

“May Allah give the government, the family and people of Katsina State, the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” he said.

Earlier, Sen. Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, son of the deceased, had paid a tribute to his mother.

“Our mother was a shining example of kindness, compassion and piety.

“Her life was a testament to the values of hard work, dedication and service to humanity.

“As a devout Muslim, she lived a life of unwavering faith, always seeking to please Allah.

“Her passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but we take comfort in the knowledge that she lived a fulfilled life and left behind a legacy of love, kindness and generosity,” he added. 

Muhammadu Buhari

The immediate former president, Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday in Abuja, expressed condolences to the Yar’Adua family and the government and people of Katsina State following the demise of Dada Yar’Adua.

Buhari, in a statement by Mr Garba Shehu, his Media Aide, described the deceased, who was the mother of Gen. Shehu Yar’Adua, his friend and classmate, as a mother of great righteousness.

In condoling the family on the demise of the matriarch of the Yar’Adua family, Buhari said the news of her passing was extremely sad.

“She was a mother who cared for her family as she did us, the friends of her children. Her virtuous life was an inspiration to us and all who came close to her.

“Her righteousness and high values of life gave the country a set of successful and patriotic leaders.

“May Allah grant her Jannatul Firdaus,” Buhari said.

The deceased died at the age of 102.

Dikko Radda

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State condoled with late President Umaru Yar’adua’s family over the demise of Hajia Dada, mother to the late President.

The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Ibrahim Kaula-Mohammed, made this known to newsmen on Monday in Katsina.

He said, “Upon receiving the news of Hajiya Dada’s demise, Gov. Radda immediately cut short his engagements in Daura and rushed to Katsina to stand in solidarity with the bereaved family during this difficult time.

“The governor’s prompt response represents the high esteem and regards for the Yar’adua family, considering the significant role members of the family have played in the state’s history.”

He revealed that the governor was accompanied by his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Abdullahi Jabiru-Tsauri, and the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abdullahi Garba Faskari, among others.

During the visit, Governor Radda expressed shock over the death.

Barau Jibrin

The Deputy President of the Senate, Sen. Barau Jibrin has led Senators to Katsina State for the condolence and funeral of the late Hajiya Dada, mother of the late President Umaru Musa-Yar’adua, who passed away on Monday at 102.

Hajiya Dada was also the mother of the late General Shehu Musa-Yar’adua and Senator Abdulaziz Musa-Yar’adua (APC-Katsina Central) and the Chairman, Senate Committee on Army.

The matriarch of the Yar’adua family was buried at the Danmarna cemetery on Tuesday in line with Islamic rite after the funeral prayer at the Katsina township stadium, Yar’adua quarters, Katsina.

Members of the senate delegation included the Chairman, Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Sen. Abdulhamid Malam-Madori and the Chairman, Senate Committee on Tertiary Education and TetFund, Sen. Muntari Dandutse.

There was also the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Science and Technology, Senator Aminu Iya-Abbas, in the delegation, and other senators.

After the burial, Jibrin prayed to the Almighty Allah to forgive her shortcomings and admit her to Al-Jannatul Firdausi.

He also urged Senator Abdulaziz Musa-Yar’adua, and all those the deceased left behind to take solace in the fact that she lived a righteous life dedicated to the service of Allah and humanity.

“Hajiya Dada was a devout Muslim who dedicated her life to the service of Allah and humanity. May Allah SWT grant Hajiya Al-Jannatul Firdausi.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army and Chairman of the Northern Senators’ Forum, Sen. Abdulaziz Musa-Yar’Adua and all other persons she left behind.

“May Allah give them the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” he prayed.

Dikko Radda

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has described the late Hajiya Dada as  a mother of the country who produced great men that worked tirelessly for the development of Nigeria.

Radda stated this on Tuesday while speaking with newsmen to condole with her immediate family and thanked all those that came to the state for her funeral rite.

“Hajiya Dada’s death is a great loss not only to the Katsina state but  Nigeria as a whole.

“She hads produced great men that worked tirelessly for the development of the country.

“Hajiya Dada lived a very good life, not only for herself, but for all of us.

“She taught us morals and led us very well. She was a woman who spoke less, but always spoke with wisdom, in fact, we have learnt a lot from her.

“Hajiya Dada always spoke in a way that would assist people,” the governor said.

Oluremi Tinubu

he First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, has extended her condolences to the Yar’Adua family over the passing of its matriarch, Hajiya Binta Yar’Adua.

A statement by the first lady’s Media Aide, Mrs Busola Kukoyi, quoted Oluremi as describing Binta as “a martriach, who has gone home”.

“I commiserate with the Yar’Ardua family on the passing of this matriarch; Hajia was a mother who played her role admirably and had great sons.

“I pray Almighty Allah grants the entire family, friends, loved ones and the numerous people she touched their lives, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

“May Allah grant her eternal life,” Mrs Tinubu was quoted as saying.

Sani Musa

Senator Sani Musa (APC-Niger East) and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, has expressed his condolences to the Yar’Adua family over the passing of Hajiya Dada.

In statement issued in Kano on Tuesday, Musa extended his sympathies to Sen. Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, the people of Katsina State, and all those whose lives were touched by the late Hajiya Dada.

He mourned her passing while celebrating her legacy of compassion, faith, honesty and good fellowship.

The lawmaker prayed for the repose of the soul of Hajiya Dada, acknowledging the significant impact she had on her family and the community.

“Her passing leaves a void in the lives of those who knew her, but her legacy will continue to inspire and guide them,” he said.
