A tragic incident at Ogbere Junction along the Ijebu Ode-Benin expressway in Ogun state has claimed two lives.
The road crash which happened Thursday morning in the Gateway State around 5:10am involved a white Mack truck with registration number ABC660XC and an orange Peugeot J5 bus with an unknown registration number.
A total of four adult male were involved in the road accident, according to a statement by the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Afolabi Odunsi.
Two of the persons involved sadly lost their lives while the other two escaped unhurt.
What caused the road crash?
Odunsi explained, “Preliminary investigation indicates that the probable causes of the crash were route violation (RTV) and speed violation (SPV). The impact of the collision led to the Peugeot J5 bus catching fire, with its front section completely burnt.
“FRSC rescue personnel arrived at the scene within two minutes of being notified and immediately commenced traffic management. The affected lane was diverted to the alternative carriageway to ease vehicular movement while efforts continued to remove the wreckage and restore free flow of traffic.

“The remains of the deceased victims were evacuated by the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD), Ogbere Division, and deposited at the mortuary.”
the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi has expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and stressed the need for motorists to obey traffic regulations at all times.
Ogunjobi warned drivers against speeding and route violations, especially during periods of poor visibility and on wet road surfaces, noting that such dangerous driving behaviours continue to be major causes of fatal crashes on Nigerian roads.
The FRSC had earlier disclosed that over 161 persons died in 415 road crashes across the state between January and May 2026.
He said that within the period under review, 1,007 persons sustained varying degrees of injuries in the crashes.
