Thinking Out Loud: (APC Condemns Fayose’s Ekiti Airport proposal) vs (Fayemi flags off Ekiti Airport Project)

The present governor of Ekiti state, Dr Kayode Fayemi has flagged off the Ekiti Airport project today (19/10/2019) in the presence of dignitaries like Chief Afe Babalola (Chairman, Ekiti Airport Committee) and Senator Hadi Sirika (Minister of Aviation).

However, in a time past, during the tenure of the immediate past governor of the state, Ayodele Fayose (PDP), Fayemi and APC were reported by TheNation to have condemned similitude plan by the then governor.

The party was quoted to have said; “wasteful venture and the most economically unviable project at this period”.

The party according to report said: “Of what economic sense and use is an airport to the economy of Ekiti when the Akure Airport is less than one hour drive to Ado Ekiti?

“What has been the positive economic impact of the Akure airport on the economy of Ondo State, which has hundreds of big industries compared to Ekiti with none?

“We wonder why the governor could not learn anything on the poor state of Ibadan Airport in that highly industrialised city.

“To even think about such a needless and wasteful project has shown Fayose as very insensitive to the plight of the common man in Ekiti.”

In a reaction to the APC statement in 2015, Vanguard reported a PDP response thus; “Instead of the APC government of Dr Kayode Fayemi to collaborate with the Federal government on the airport project, he, out of political vendetta told the Federal government that airport was not the priority of the State.

“However, the same Fayemi, who had said that the airport was not necessary, describing it as a white elephant project complained when the then President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan visited Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, that the non take-off of the airport project was slowing down the pace of economic activities in the state?”
